Introducing the New Crucial Accountability Companion Course

Shared Visions is pleased to announce Vital Smarts’ new Crucial Accountability Companion Course. The one-day training builds on the skills learned in Crucial Conversations  Training and introduces a powerful new set of skills for resolving violated expectations, broken commitments and bad behavior.

Over the past 30 years, VitalSmarts has studied the specific behaviors demonstrated by the most influential leaders. The Company’s research identified two skill sets consistently held by top performers that provide tremendous leverage over corporate results. The first skill set, the ability to hold crucial conversations, leads to effective and candid dialogue where people and teams surface the best ideas and make the best decisions regardless of power, position or politics. The second skill set, the ability to hold others accountable, ensures that once the best decisions are made, they are executed in a timely and effective manner.

The Crucial Accountability Companion Course enables those who already have knowledge of crucial conversations skills to learn accountability skills in a convenient one-day format. During the course, participants will learn to diagnose why someone continually falls short of set expectations and then derive a plan that both motivates and enables the other person to successfully change behaviors.

Joseph Grenny, co-founder of VitalSmarts, says the Crucial Accountability Companion Course provides essential skills to resolve complex accountability issues and achieve the results that matter most.

“Our research, combined with our clients’ impressive results, demonstrates that learning the skills to create healthy dialogue and hold others accountable is truly a winning combination,” says Grenny. “When you teach employees the skills of both Crucial Conversations and Crucial Accountability, your organization will immediately improve its key performance indicators.”

With more than 30 original video clips of “before and after” situations and video-based instruction from the authors of the New York Times best-seller Crucial Confrontations: Tools for Resolving Broken Promises, Violated Expectations, and Bad Behavior, the Crucial Accountability Companion Course engages participants with extensive in-class practice and group participation.

The skills taught in the Crucial Accountability Companion Course include:

  • Diagnose the Underlying Cause. Is the offending person unmotivated? Or is he or she unable? Perhaps it’s both. Participants learn to identify the underlying cause or causes behind every problem—even when the other person masks or hides the real issue.
  • Make It Easy. What if the person can’t do what’s been asked? How do you enable the unable? Participants learn to involve the other person in coming up with solutions to his or her ability barriers.
  • Make It Motivating. What if you discover that others don’t want to do what’s been asked? Or if they have conflicting priorities? Participants learn to avoid leading with threats or power and instead, search for and explain the natural consequences of noncompliance.
